Do you feel like you’ve been studying for a long time and don’t understand anything?
You’re probably not going to understand every word in a book or song.
Truthfully? Even when I listen to songs in English, I can’t figure out the lyrics.
When I watch movies in English, I miss so many sentences.
How can I possibly expect to comprehend everything in an Italian song, book or show?
- Be comfortable with not knowing everything.
- Try to guess words from context.
- Look for the overall meaning.
Look at it this way, would you rather have more practise and exposure with the language or stress yourself out with one text, trying to understand every single word?
There’s a time and place for analysing a text but please do yourself a favour and let go of the idea that you need to comprehend everything.
